Here is a list of the most common costs associated with having a web site created for an organization. E-Commerce sites, for example, would have more cost and fees due to the nature of the web site.
Domain Name Registration - To have a web site on the Internet your organization will need a Domain Name or URL. This is simply the address of your website, for example,http://www.NewBusiness.com could be the Domain Name of your website. Registering a Domain Name can range in price from $35 to $70 (.com/.net/org). Currently, I can register a domain name (.com/.net/.org) for a client at the cost of $50 per year.
Development - This is the cost of having the web site created. It is everything that is done before the web site "goes live" (is made available for the world to see). Development costs include, but are not limited to, the artistic design of your
web site, the creation of the images needed, compiling the written copy to go on the web pages, and the writing of the HTML and/or programming code to make the web pages for your web site. Depending on the needs of the organization, this price can range from $1000 to several thousand dollars.
Hosting - All web sites on the Internet are located on a server. The "server" is a computer your web site is stored on. This is where your web site "lives" or is "hosted". Currently, depending on the needs of the organization, the price to host a web site ranges from $180 - $500 annually or $20 - $60 a month. Included in this price, will be the technical support (unless otherwise specified in a contract) between your organization and the hosting company.
Maintenance - After the web site "goes live" your organization may want to update some of the graphics, add more pages, or change something. At this point these changes/updates would fall into the maintenance category. A per hour fee (unless otherwise stated in a contract) would be charged to perform these maintenance tasks. Currently, this fee is $negotiable but typically range from $50.00 to $125.00 per hour depending on the requirements. A way to lower your maintenance cost would be to have me build the web site using a database-driven approach.
